Thing that Annoyed Me and a Merch Drop

Hello Dreamers. I hope you are all having a lovely day today.

So, let me start with a story.

About a week ago my computer borked. Could only boot it in safemode. Sadge.

So I spend that weekend reinstalling the OS. And all my programs and drivers. Bleh.

Everything is in place, and is booting up, and its time to go live and... Ok, why is OBS at 10fps? The graphics card is an intel Arc 770 with 16G of GPU memory. And it is choking on having to record/scream a 4k monitor? So, maybe I need to enable hardware accelleration. Ok, I go into OBS settings and... ok where the F*** is the option?

vainfo informs me that the drivers are not loading correctly. I spend about an hour reinstalling graphic drivers. This card, prior to the OS reinstall, was giving me segmentatino faults on mulitple programs. Couldn't run Lutris. Choked on anything steam. Now, it threatens to do it all again.

So I went on Amazon. I found a refurbed card: an AMD RTX 480 with only 8G of GPU memory. The Arc was ~$600 on Newegg. This downgrade of a card was ~$100. Bought it, installed the drivers, slotted everything in and... like that... all my problems went away. Steam stuff runs without issue. OBS loads up, and is at max frame rate! I haven't tested it with Lutris, or the program I want Lutris to run, the Sims 4, but that is coming.

Why is a lower end card working better in my computer than a higher end one? Is this an indication that Intel's GPUs are garbage? Well, at least I found a computer components buyer that will take my arc away in exchange for $130. Still, bleh.
