No Kings

Hello Dreamers.

ree

While I am not American what happens in the USA has ripple effects in my home in Canada. So while I cannot be at a No Kings rally today, due to CanCon and being in Canada, I do want to show my support for the country and those watching what happens when you have an unitary president.

The Symbol of Resistance: The Frog

Portland, Oregon, had protests with people dressed up in silly animal costumes to demonstrate the ridiculousness of armed patrols in a town where crime is the last thing you think about. I mean, Maga thinks we need the army to deal with furry flash-mobs? The optics makes these supposed agents look like the thugs that they are.

The most popular one being the frog - from an incident where ICE pepper-sprayed someone in such a costume. Since then more people showed up to these dance parties in frog costumes.

The Broken Crown

I'll be upfront, I consulted Gemini for ideas on how to represent the idea of No Kings and it suggested a broken crown - its AI they are usually on the nose. Still, Kings worn crowns on their head, so trashing one likes it Midna's helmet sends the message clearly.

Now that I think about it, can anyone else picture JD Vance wearing that hair appliance Ganondorf had in Twilight Princess?

Ok, I'm digressing.

Wait, Doesn't Canada have a King?

You mean that old fart in England? The dude whose fingers are as fat as Trump's ankles?

At least they ain't small hands

Canada's route to independence had been more complicated, and more gradual. I mean, in World War 1 Canada fought as part of the British Army. My mom remembers singing God Save the Queen alongside O Canada with a picture of the queen in the classroom.

Canada negotiated for independence at an opportune moment. Overtime the British Empire loosened their hold of Canada. At time of write, King Charles III, and his mother before him, has next to no say in how Canada runs herself. A figurehead in ceremony alone - the real person with power, the actual head of state would be the Prime Minister.

At time of write its a stereotypical, boring and straitlaced as fuck, Canadian Banker.

Would you believe Canada was also founded as a Christian Nation? Yet, just as our sovereign is an elected official with checks on his power, we're also more secular.

In Closing

While I hope the USA is able to restore normalcy in their government peacefully, there is also a good chance there will be a civil war. ICE is already attacking local police. Sooner or later, someone is going to do something to save their loved one, and that moment will be the excuse Trump needs to have the military killing civilians. Suppose ICE tries to take your friend or loved one off the street with you there. Could you just get your phone and hit record?

For a moment that had been manufactured by his regime.

Still, hang in there. The fight for democracy, rule of law, and just basic decency, is important. As a wise man once said "Elbows Up."
