How the Barrie Market Went

Hello Dreamers,

The Library Event was an interesting day all round. Mingled with some local authors in the area and got a few copies of Champion of Seasons sold. How few, exactly four!

Baby steps.

Some takeaways.

  • I was slotted in the kids/YA section. At the time I signed up Whispers of the Abyss hadn't been released yet, and Champion of Seasons is 14+. Next year I think I want to be in the adult section. Not only could i sell the gorier, spicier, stuff, but I think there would be a bigger market with adults/older teens for Champion of Seasons.

  • Should I bother with hard copies? All four copies were paperbacks. Perhaps I should wait until I have more of a fan following before printing hardcovers again.

  • People love bookmarks!

  • High hopes, low expectations. it is a public library in North America. Those things tend to be underfunded.

  • I will look into other market events. Kempenfelt Festival is a thing in Barrie. Maybe I can get a stall in the CNE? Word on the Street Toronto? Maybe expand out of the GTA?

By next year, I am hoping to have at least two more books published. Three would be too optimistic. So, expect great things!
